Welcome to the Chaos - A Blog for People Who Are Doing the MOST
Share
Let me set the scene.
It's 5:47 PM on a Tuesday. You just got home. The kids are hungry. You're exhausted. Someone in your house can't eat gluten, dairy, or soy. And you're standing in front of your fridge thinking —
What the hell do I feed my family right now?
And there are days where sometimes you just toss in some of those GF Dino nuggets and cut up whatever vegetable is hanging by a thread in the drawer and cry into your wine glass.
Yeah. I know that feeling. And I want to help you make that happen less.
Hi, I'm Chef Susie — trained culinary professional, mom, founder of Well Rounded Meals, and someone who has absolutely stood in her own kitchen feeling completely overwhelmed despite having every qualification that should make this easy.
Because here's the thing nobody tells you: knowing HOW to cook and having the time and energy to actually do it are two very different things. And when you add food allergies or dietary restrictions into the mix? The overwhelm can feel like a lot.
That's exactly why this blog exists.
So what IS Real Food, Real Chaos?
Real Food, Real Chaos is where we skip the perfection and get straight to dinner.
No specialty ingredients with names you can't pronounce. No recipes that require growing a fourth arm to keep your toddler from the sharpies. No fear-mongering about macros or guilt about the Valentine's Day candy you ate standing over the sink after the kids went to bed.
Just honest, practical, cooking advice from a real chef who also happens to be a real mom living a real chaotic life.
Every post on this blog will give you something genuinely useful — a chef tip you can use tonight, a swap that makes allergen-free cooking feel normal, a recipe that actually works on a weeknight, or just a little reassurance that you are doing a great job even when dinnertime is a total disaster.
A little about me and why I built this
I started Well Rounded Meals in August 2020 out of what I can only describe as a beautiful marital miscommunication. My wife posted our freezer meals in a local Facebook group for eight thousand moms — I thought she meant her book club of ten. Within 36 hours we'd sold 170 meals and I was yelling TURN IT OFF from the other room.
We didn't own a deep freezer. We didn't have packaging. I bought wholesale meat from a guy in a parking lot who looked at me and said "you sure you want this, lady? That's a lot of meat."
It was chaos. But it worked.
Fast forward to today — 15,000 meals delivered, 60+ recipes created, a cookbook published, and a crash course in what busy families actually need at dinnertime. Something easy. Something delicious. Something that doesn't require more than they've already got.
What I didn't expect was how much I'd fall in love with helping people feel like total rockstars in their own kitchens. The meals were just the gateway. What really stuck was the "I did that!" feeling — the confidence that comes from putting real food on the table even on the hardest days.
That's what this blog is about.
Who this blog is for
This blog is for you if:
🌿 You want to cook real food but your weeknights are genuinely chaotic and you need practical not precious
🌿 You're trying to eat better — more protein, less processed stuff, more real ingredients — but you don't know where to start
🌿 You've been burned by complicated meal kits or recipes that look great on Instagram and fall apart in real life
🌿 You're feeding a family with food allergies or dietary restrictions and you're tired of feeling like you're constantly starting from scratch
🌿 You just want someone to tell you the truth about food without the drama, the fad diets, or the judgment
If any of that sounds like you — you're in the right place.
What's coming up on the blog
We're kicking things off with a two part series on protein — because I'm currently doing a spring wellness challenge that includes hitting 100 grams of protein a day, and spoiler alert: most of us are nowhere near that number and it's why we're starving and exhausted by 3 PM.
After that we'll be covering everything from allergen-free ingredient swaps that actually work, to how to rescue a dinner gone wrong, to the kitchen staples that live permanently in my pantry and why.
Basically — everything I wish someone had told me when I was standing in my kitchen overwhelmed, scared, and hungry.
